My Friend, My Foe

Updated: Oct 2

It had to happen

She needed to be shot down

Unsure of when or how

I shadowed her around town

But she never let her guard down

When the moment

finally came

I aimed

And her body

slid to the ground

A tiny white pill

Rolled out

of her frowning mouth

My friend.

My foe.

The doves

flew by

in droves

As they lowered her casket

The box creaked and cracked

The mourners gasped

Inside:

no body

And thus,

no crime

Later that year

I thought I caught

A ghostly glimpse of her

Through a smudged shop window

Far from danger

Even from me
