Keep the Light On

I wrote to you again,

but only met with silence, my friend.

I read your last message again

to the world, and to yourself

about escaping your skin

and joining the stars.

How are they now,

now that you’ve made them your sparkling home?

How do you feel without your earthly name?

What’s it like to burn so bright

a wish we all once made?

It’s getting darker here,

winter around the corner.

Usually I’m prepping

for the old man to pay a visit

from the distant north.

But you and I both know

that place is empty and dark.

void of any laughter.

No letters sent,

and none returned.

I hope you are doing well,

my beautiful friend.

I’ll wrap the presents

and deliver them as intended.

I’ll keep the house light on.

Someone has to keep hope strong.
