Behind the Curtain

Believing in the future

is like a child believing 

That all adults are wise and kind

There are research papers,

and studies,

warnings,

and hypotheses.

But doth a soliloquy

make us any wiser?

It seems I’ve peeked

Behind the curtain —

and found that the little wizard

was the future we all dreamed:

a little self-absorbed,

childlike,

and not at all mature.

We are flying monkeys

Waiting for their Godot
