Coven of Matriarchy

When you pray,

Is it to a man or a woman?

I’m not religious,

But lately I’ve been drawn to

The synergy of motherhood

A silent religion

We’re baptized into

By birth and renewal.

Not just humans,

But apes, otters, and whales too.

Watching a mother wolf,

A brown bear with her cub,

I feel something ancient—

A familiar spirit,

A mystical power,

Bonding us together.

I suppose the witch trials

were by lesser men

afraid of such magic

too mighty to steal

too sacred to consume

Lately I’ve been worshipping

The coven of matriarchy.

And if you ask, what’s beyond death?

A legacy.
